Combined Remote Laser Cutting and Welding of Plate Heat Exchanger Plate heat exchangers are build of shaped plates, assembled in a stack. Between the plates a space for the heat-providing and the heat-receiving fluid is formed. In a first step, four cut-outs are realized in a by remote ablation cutting and in a second step two mirrored plates are joined by remote laser beam welding in an overlap configuration.

Remote Ablation Cutting of structured sheets
This video shows the manufacturing of heat exchanger plates. For the supply with fluids, circular cut-outs have to be realized within the structured metal sheet. The process of Remote Ablation Cutting holds in this case the potential to substitute die-cutting processes.

Combined Remote Laser Welding, Cutting and Marking
At the Laser Fair 2009 in Munich, the iwb showed the combined processing of welding, cutting and marking, manufacturing a bookmark. Special challenge was the implementation of all three processes in one system technology, consisting of one laser beam source and one scanner optics.

Remote Laser Welding of heat exchanger plates
Manufacturing heat Plate heat exchanger, two mirror-structured sheets are joined together. These two plates form a cavity for the fluid. The demand for the seam is leak-tightness; the challenge for the process is reliability and productivity. In this video Remote Laser Welding on-the-fly is demonstrated with robot guided scanner optics.
