The iwb currently employs approx. 60 research associates from the fields of machine building, mathematics, electrical engineering, physics, computer science, and business management. Approximately 35 non-scientific employees work in iwb work shops, laboratories, and administrative offices to support researchers in archiving and maintaining findings. Additionally, our capacities are supplemented and extended by approx. 100 student research assistants.

The iwb is structured as a matrix. The research teams and service centers act as counterparts to the project groups.

The management of the Institute is the responsibility of the Management Board, which consists of two professors, Michael Zäh and Gunther Reinhart, and experienced research associates. The Board determines the strategic direction of the Institute and its implementation.
